Originally launched in 2010, last summer sailboat builder Beneteau announced that they were giving the entire Sense line a fresh look (read Beneteau Sense Sailboat Line Relaunched, to get the whole story). At the time they said the line would include a 51- and 57-footers, and our European reviewer, Rupert Holmes, got an early look at the all-new Sense 57 this winter at the London boat show. The Sense 57 was designed by Berret Racoupeau Yacht Design, with the interior dĆ©cor done by Nauta Design.Ā Of particular interest to many sailors is the transom design, which was open on the previous Sense models and caused consternation among some buyers. The new design incorporates an electrically-actuated hydraulic transom, which can be put up while underway or tilted down to create a ā€œteak beachā€ while at anchor or in port. Another new addition to the cockpit is an outdoor galley module. Cabin layout doesnā€™t change dramatically, still offering three staterooms and three heads. Both the changes and the remaining elements of the Senseā€™s design hold true to Beneteauā€™s original aim when creating these models: keeping an open feeling down below, providing easy access to the water, and keeping staterooms away from machinery spaces to minimize noise.
