Description
The Catalina 36 Tall Rig has two feet additional mast height over the standard rig. With the asymmetric spinnaker, the extra mast height lets the boat carry speed in light wind while not getting over powered in a stiff breeze. We have sailed the boat comfortably in 35+kts wind, double handed. When guests onboard are less comfortable with healing over, we reef at 15kts sustained wind to keep the boat flat. Otherwise we do not even start to think about reefing until 20-25kts sustained wind. The boat is very well balanced and sails beautifully.
One of the standout features of every Catalina 36 is the excellent interior layout. Catalina sailboats built today still use the same basic design. This Catalina 36 is further improved over other 36s by recovering the cushions with light colored fabric, installing overhead waterproof LED lighting, light colored drapery, and a large mural on the bulkhead. This significantly brightens the salon and greatly improves the sense of space in an already spacious design. Most people who come onboard for the first time comment, āWow, it is way bigger in here than I thought it would be.ā
The navigation station was decreased in size and the navigation chair replaced with a storage bench. This additional seating area provides a great place for people to sit while taking shoes on and off, while providing a great storage area for large frequently needed items, such as life jackets. This simple piece of cabinetry was a game changer for interior organization and tidiness.
In colder seasons, the interior is kept warm with a Webasto DBW-2010 hydronic heater. Each room of the boat has its own thermostat and heat exchanger.
