Grand Banks launched their latest flagship the GB85 at the Palm Beach International Boat Show 2022 to great acclaim. The largest boat Grand Banks has ever built, she was one of the most popular vessels on display at this year's show, which is one of the top boat shows in the country each year. Boaters from around the country descend on Palm Beach to see a plethora of new boat debuts and showcased model year yachts and water toys as well as the latest is gear and gadgets. In that crowd, the GB85 really stuck out as a remarkable new boat. Our team had the chance to hop aboard during the show and we've rounded up some of the highlights below from our experience during our full walkthrough tour.

A Flagship Yacht: Inching Into Superyacht Status

The GB85 is not just a bigger Grand Banks, she's a whole new class of boat for the builder. Technically, at just over 87 feet, the 85 is inching into the "Superyacht" category. (Traditionally superyachts were anything over 80 feet, although that line is not set in stone and it has been shifting more to over 100 feet.) Although she is on the cusp of that classification, the onboard living space really does provide that superyacht experience.

In addition to inching into that class Grand Bank's exquisite new vessel is set to break many records for performance, efficiency and range in many categories for cruisers and trawlers as well as large motor yachts.

On the GB85, space is abundant. Her extended length along with a 22-foot beam enable Grand Banks to offer a wide range of internal configurations and amenities for all on board ā€“ including both guests and crew. For long distance cruising, the ā€™85 offers a rare combination of sociability and privacy.

An Excellent, Efficient Caribbean Cruiser

With a draft of 4 feet she's clearly one of the best boats for Caribbean and Bahamas for families looking to do extended cruising with the whole gang aboard in comfort, alleviating the need for hotels and accommodations on land. She's also, importantly, an exceptionally efficient cruiser with a lighter weight than other boats in her class (she has a dry weight of 89,500 lbs).

Excellent Maintenance Features

One notable characteristic of the Grand Banks GB85 is how accessible her engine room is (two entrances) as well as the fact she has separate compartments for the engines and the rest of her onboard systems including the air conditioning and electronics. This means owner/operators and onboard maintenance crews can access these systems while underway without having to work in a hot engine room to address any maintenance issues that may arise on the water.

Full Beam Master Suite

Her full beam master suite is located mid ship and is spacious and refined with a king mattress and plenty of light filtering in from both starboard and port windows. The en suite features fogging glass windows that offer privacy while still allowing light to enter the living space.

Upper Deck - Luxurious Sky Lounge

One of the highlights onboard the GB85 is the luxurious top deck, aptly named the "Sky Lounge" that truly feels like a lounge in the clouds, over the vessel below. Full controls at the helm here give the operator a bird's eye view over the entire yacht with clear sight over the bow, perched in comfort in plush captain's chair. Aft of the main controls is a great lounging area that opens to an open aft deck that's shaded by the top that covers the area and protects the space from inclement weather.

Main Salon And Galley

The main salon opens up to the aft deck, and moving forward the cavernous space provides a great social area for entertaining and lounging. The space is nicely separated from the galley with a full wall on the starboard forward side of the salon, which makes preparing meals away from the passengers enjoying a movie or having a conversation very easy. The galley also has a full ship door on starboard that can be opened for a nice cross breeze, and full flip up controls on the starboard counter, giving an easy operating position for docking.
