    Southerly 115 Series III

    Rock Hall, Maryland
    2002
    $140,000

Since the original Southerly 115 series 1 was introduced to the yachting community in 1983, she has outrivaled many yachts her size.  Following on from the Series 2 was the much-improved Series 3 which benefited from nearly 20 years of continuous improvements.  Designed by Dick Carter and Robert Humphreys, Footloose was built by Northshore Yachts, Ltd in 2002 and purchased by her current owners. Southerly Yachts are designed and built to deliver extreme shoal draft as well as deep draft performance and stability.  These yachts are true blue water boats designed and built to cross oceans.  With the keel up, the Southerly 115 has an extreme shoal draft of only 2 feet 4 inches! With the keel all the way down, the S115 draft is an impressive 8 feet 2 inches.  The keel is fully adjustable to any depth that you wish by the push of a button. Southerly 115 Series 3 “Footloose” spent her first fifteen years sailing the splendid European coastline by her original owners.  After visiting many exotic locations, they shipped her to scenic North American coastline where she explored from the Florida Keys up to Maine and then finally to the Chesapeake. Her swing keel offers both shallow draught performance; the yacht has a variable depth from 2.25 feet to 8.08 feet and can be easily beached making her a very capable and versatile yacht!   – SHALLOW DRAFT FREEDOM – At the touch of a button, the keel can be raised to sail in shallow waters. This means you can extend your cruising grounds considerably.  Raising the swing keel gives you access to many tidal locations and allows you to berth this yacht literally on the beach or keep her at your shallow water dock or even on a lift!  – DEEP DRAFT PERFORMANCE – The swing keel provides a deep draft which gives a greater stability due to the increased righting moment. In practice the boat is stiffer, carries her sail better and carves her way efficiently to windward in any seaway. The swing keel's air foil shape is highly efficient - and allows you to point high (typically 30 degrees). When you enter this yacht through the companion way you are greeted by an open and airy galley to port and the nav station to starboard with full views outside. There are stainless steel grab rails everywhere, the teak joinery is stunning, and storage abounds.  Concertina blinds which are very easy to open/close or adjust to any point cover the raised salon windows. There are custom curtains on all the ports and even a nice area starboard of the companion way which can be used as a wet locker. For more details on the galley and nav station see below. Forward of the galley and down a step is the large salon to port with generous "U" shaped seating and a settee to starboard.  The table pivots and raises to the ceiling to allow easy access to the port settee at both the forward and aft ends.  The table also lowers to convert to a double berth and can expand to allow additional seating for dining on the starboard side.  Two large storage areas are found under both the starboard and port settees.  Forward of the salon is the forward cabin.  It boasts two single berths with storage outboard and under.  To port there is an outboard shelf and to starboard there is a large pull-out storage bin.  Forward there are two drop lockers. This space also offers excellent lighting with an opening foredeck hatch with screen /shade blind and two side ports.  The two over and under berths are 78" in length. Aft of the nav station to starboard is the head.  There is a large window here with blinds for plenty of light and great headroom. It boasts a Jabasco sea toilet with both holding tank and overboard discharge capability.  There is a vanity with a large sink, hot and cold pressure water, a pull-out shower head, solar extractor fan, and a seat over the toilet.  Storage includes outboard closed shelves and a large locker under the sink.  Aft of the galley is the passageway to the master cabin. In the passageway inboard are 2 doors which provide excellent engine room access.  Outboard there is a large hanging locker with additional storage for the salon berth filler.  Aft of this passageway is a private door to the aft cabin. Footloose is equipped with a large aft owner’s cabin with standing headroom, and nicely apportioned storage to bring all your belongings for a long cruise.  As you make your way through the hall (with complete access to the engine room to the starboard) you pass by numerous cabinetry and drawers for even more storage.  The aft cabin has a double berth with filler and a very nice seat and vanity to starboard with 6 feet of head room.  The queen berth is approx. 78" by 52".  There is a storage locker also to starboard and three deep cupboards aft.  This space also offers excellent lighting. Equally impressive is the roomy galley with excellent visibility overlooking the salon and well-lit by the large windows providing impressive views.  The galley is equipped with a two-burner range and refrigerator.  It boasts Corian countertops which are in pristine condition.  Just starboard of the galley you will find the head and shower with an unmatched 6’10” headroom making showering and preparing for the day/night quite comfortable.  Just forward of the head is the Southerly renowned second helm nestled in the navigation station. This Southerly addition is a must for traveling in adverse weather providing all the comforts of and versatility of a pilot house.   Construction: GRP hull, deck, and superstructure.
